Last year (2020) The Kent Association of Local Councils asked the Parish Council if we wished to nominate an individual to receive an award for Outstanding Service to the Local Community. Without dissent the Council were unanimous in their choice – Steve Spitty from Swingfield Street.
Steve spearheads the Swingfield Street Community Group which organises and runs a great variety of events throughout the year including the very popular Theatre performances held in St Peters Church. In addition to this, the group hold regular Macmillan Coffee Mornings to raise funds and run a successful Food Bank collection service.
All things being equal the award was due to be presented at the Annual Parish Meeting last April, which proved impossible due to the Covid restrictions. It had also been hoped that The High Sheriff of Kent would be in attendance to present the award to Steve personally.
In the end we had to settle for presenting Steve with his award on Swingfield Minnis after he had put in a hard mornings work planting trees! In addition to the framed award, personally signed by the High Sheriff, the Council presented Steve with a fine oak tree, which he promptly had to plant!
Well done Steve – thank you for all your inspirational work.
